Bringing Books to Babes
From the day that Every Child Succeeds enrolled its first family, we have been committed to the principle that all children deserve the best possible start. Reading to children and talking with them are essential for good brain development leading to being ready for school. We know that the first three years of learning and development are more important than any three that follow and that often the books our home visitors give to our families are the only books they have.
Two Every Child Succeeds Board Members, Mary Ellen Cody and Digi Schueler, have created a program called Bringing Books to Babes to make sure that Every Child Succeeds children receive an age appropriate book for each month that they are in the program.
Bringing Books to Babes has several activities planned throughout the year. Check back often for the most current event list and support opportunities.

Three experts in the area of learning and literacy will share their insight
Dr. John Hutton, Cincinnati Children's Hospital pediatrician, author and owner of Blue Manatee will discuss the importance of reading together as early and as often as possible. Dr. Hutton is a strong advocate for keeping kids "screen free until 3." He will share some must-have book ideas as well as his new children's book series, Baby Unplugged.
Loren Long, New York Times best-selling author/illustrator (and Cincinnati's own) will also join us with a presentation and book signing. Mr. Long's credits include the loveable Otis series, Mr. Peabody's Apples with pop icon Madonna, Of Thee I Sing with President Obama, the Golden Kite medal-winning I dream of Trains, and a remake of the classic The Little Engine That Could.
Dr. Judith Van Ginkel, President of Every Child Succeeds and well known adovacte for women and children, will describe a unique literacy program that ECS has developed for children 0-3. Under Dr. Van Ginkel's leadership, the program, following a business-like model of operations and utilizing the resources of the nationally recognized Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, has been shown to significatnly decrease infant mortality rates and lead to proper physical, emotional and cognitive development in children it serves - a foundation critical for any type of success in life.
